Rosemary House

Natural Charm, Stoke Newington

149.1 sqm / 1,605 sqft

Rosemary House was a thoughtful refresh of a family home in Stoke Newington, where the brief was not to start again, but to sensitively evolve what was already there. Recently redecorated, the house had strong foundations, yet an abundance of navy joinery and cooler tones left many rooms feeling darker and more formal than the client wanted for day-to-day family life.

Our role was to gently lift the interiors with a warmer, lighter hand - introducing soft greens, blush pinks and earthy terracotta tones that could pick up colours already present within the client’s furniture, artwork and personal pieces. Rather than replace unnecessarily, we focused on reworking and refining: retaining much of the existing joinery and cabinetry, repainting key elements, layering in new textiles, art and lighting, and making upgrades where they would have the greatest impact.

Living Light

Previously cooler in feel, the main reception room was softened through a rebalanced palette of warm neutrals, pale greens and buttery yellow accents. Existing joinery was repainted rather than replaced, helping the room feel fresher and less heavy. New textiles, updated window dressings and carefully positioned artwork create a relaxed, elegant family sitting room.

Snug Sanctuary

Designed as a quieter retreat, the snug combines comfort with character. Rich terracotta tones within the fireplace tiles and artwork add depth, while boucle upholstery and layered lighting make the room feel intimate and inviting. A calm place to read, work or unwind.

We love the terracotta doorway that connects the kitchen and the snug space, visually linking the two with a pop of colour.

Kitchen Calm

The kitchen already functioned well, so the focus here was enhancement rather than overhaul. Existing cabinetry was retained, while surrounding finishes and furnishings were updated to create better harmony with the rest of the house. Olive dining chairs, warm timber tones and considered styling bring softness to the darker cabinetry.

Bedroom Bloom

In the main bedroom, existing wardrobes were retained and repainted in a restful green, becoming a key feature rather than something to remove. Pink and ivory layers soften the scheme, while new bedside furniture and lighting add a lighter, more contemporary feel. The room now feels calmer, fresher and more personal.

Dressing Delight

A spare bedroom was converted into a dressing room and study space, and reworked to feel both practical and playful. Bespoke cane-front wardrobes add texture and warmth, while a softly curved desk area introduces a boutique-hotel feel. Warm neutrals and blush accents keep the room feminine without becoming overly sweet.

Guest Glow

The guest bedroom was designed to feel cheerful and welcoming, with sunny ochres, olive velvet and layered pattern bringing personality to the compact room. Existing architecture was embraced, while new styling ensures visiting friends and family feel instantly at home.

Hello Hallway

The entrance hall sets the tone with a calm, welcoming palette and renewed sense of lightness. Existing architectural detailing was celebrated, while a soft sage front door and striped mirror bring personality to the narrow space. New timber flooring adds warmth, while the staircase runner introduces gentle texture and muted colour.
